Reality T.V. star divorce gets complicated

On Behalf of | Sep 11, 2016 | Divorce

Real Housewives of New York City star Jules Wainstein announced that she was withdrawing from the show after the first season. She cited her contentious divorce as the reason for her withdrawal. Specifically, she stated that she must focus on her family and on settling her personal matters.

Unfortunately for Ms. Wainstein, her divorce took a more complicated turn when her ex-husband requested that the grocery money, $200 a week, be given to the nanny rather than to her. He argued that Ms. Wainstein is not properly caring for the children and that the nanny understands their diet better than her. The judge, however, ruled against Mr. Wainstein’s motion but ordered her to keep receipts to ensure that the father can check her expenses to confirm the children are receiving proper care.

The judge also ruled on Ms. Wainstein’s request for $25,000 a month in child and spousal support. But the judge ruled against her on that request and temporarily reduced it to $10,000 for September and October. Mr. Wainstein argued that his businesses suffered since Ms. Wainstein joined the cast of the Real Housewives of New York City and that he now has outstanding receivables and in the subject in several lawsuits.

Ms. Wainstein countered that he hadn’t produced his tax returns nor substantiated his net income. The judge warned Mr. Wainstein to present more evidence before October.

The blow by blow of the end of a marriage can get messy extraordinarily quickly. It ‘s hard to project what exactly will break apart a divorce settlement, but regardless it is best to have an attorney on your side. A lawyer is one of the few people that will watch your back ensure that you receive a fair settlement from the divorce. The terms of the divorce will set the stage for the next few years of your post-divorce life; you don’t want to risk your support or your child’s support by being unprepared.
