You often hear about divorce rates in the big-picture sense — the rate for the country or the world. But you’re not all that worried about the divorce rate in New York or Spain. It has no bearing on how likely you are to get divorced in Texas. What does the rate look like here?
Divorce rates are trending down all over
The rate is dropping in Texas, as it is in most of the country. In fact, on the whole, the rate in America has fallen by about 20% in recent years.
It’s slightly more than that in Texas. Here, the rate has dropped by 21.21%. The marriage rate has also fallen by 14.08%. Overall, Texas ranked 42 out of 50 in a recent study. In contrast, the No. 1 state in the study was Mississippi and No. 50 was Nevada.
Of course, the rate itself does not necessarily impact your own marriage. Even in the states with the lower divorce rates, they still do happen. Divorce has changed a lot over the years. It’s not nearly as hard as it was for previous generations, and it does not carry the same negative stigma any longer. There are a lot of reasons for this, from shifting social norms to increased life expectancies for both men and women.
